Carrington West are seeking a District Building Surveyor to join a busy Building Surveying Team within Lancashire County Council. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated professional to deliver projects, manage reactive maintenance, and provide trusted advice across a wide portfolio of properties - with a focus on schools and operational buildings.
 

The Role

As a District Building Surveyor, you'll be the first point of contact for clients, offering technical and compliance advice on all property matters. You'll manage projects from inception to completion, oversee reactive repairs, and advise on statutory requirements such as Planning, Building Control, Asbestos, and Fire Safety.
 

Key responsibilities include:

·Delivering minor capital projects and coordinating reactive maintenance works.
·Managing Service Level Agreements with schools and providing 24/7 emergency assistance.
·Supporting head teachers and premises managers with compliance, premises management and budgeting.
·Acting as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations for relevant projects.
·Managing external contractors and ensuring compliance with H&S legislation.
·Carrying out building surveys, dilapidations, condition surveys and cost estimates.
·Collaborating with the wider Design & Construction disciplines.


District Building Surveyor - Lancashire

Location: Agile working, based at County Hall, Preston
Contract: Initial 5 months (full time, 37 hrs p/w)
Rate: Negotiable (umbrella, inside IR35)
Start: ASAP
 
 
About You

To succeed in this role, you should have:
·Chartered membership of RICS or CIOB, or substantial equivalent vocational experience.
·A proven track record in Building Surveying design and delivery.
·Strong knowledge of building maintenance, defect diagnosis and remedial solutions.
·Ability to prepare detailed CAD drawings and specifications for tendering.
·Excellent communication and client liaison skills, with experience in the public sector desirable.
·Flexibility to cover out of hours emergency standby duty on a rota basis.
