Highways Project Manager
Role Overview
Carrington West is recruiting on behalf of our client, a local authority on the Isle of Wight, for an experienced Highways Project Manager. In this role, you will support the Service Director and Strategic Manager in delivering critical transport, travel, and highway infrastructure projects. You will lead work packages, establish governance structures, manage risk, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across internal teams and local communities.
This role involves travel to the Isle of Wight approximately twice a month, so access to own transport is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
·Manage and deliver project work packages using robust project management methodologies.
·Support the development and delivery of DfT Safer Roads schemes, Active Travel projects, and pedestrian improvement initiatives (Role 1).
·Lead on Surface Water Drainage schemes and landslip remediation projects in South Wight (Role 2).
·Establish and maintain project governance, preparing documentation for boards and committees.
·Engage and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the community.
·Commission and oversee professional services and developer contracts.
·Provide technical expertise in development financing and strategic delivery.
·Oversee projects from inception through to completion, ensuring quality, risk management, and budget control.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
·Proven project management experience, ideally in highways or transport infrastructure.
·Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
·Technical knowledge of development financing and delivery.
Desirable:
·Own transport (to enable regular travel to Isle of Wight).
·Prior experience in DfT-funded schemes, drainage, or landslip work.
