Exciting Opportunity for a Clerk of Works - Major Highways Schemes
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and detail-focused Clerk of Works to join a forward-thinking local authority delivering significant highways infrastructure projects across West Yorkshire. This is a vital role within the delivery team, ensuring high standards of construction quality, compliance, and safety across a range of major highways schemes.
With a strong pipeline of capital projects underway, including strategic highway improvements and complex infrastructure upgrades, this role offers a chance to make a tangible impact on regional connectivity and resilience. You'll act as the client's eyes and ears on site, ensuring that works are carried out to specification, safely, and in line with all relevant technical and contractual standards.
The main duties of the Clerk of Works are:
·Monitor construction activity across large-scale highways projects, ensuring compliance with design drawings, specifications, and regulations.
·Carry out regular site inspections, keeping detailed records of progress, workmanship, and quality assurance.
·Identify and report defects or deviations, ensuring timely resolution and corrective actions.
·Provide on-site support to project managers and engineers, acting as a key liaison between contractors and the client.
·Support health and safety compliance through site observations and reporting.
·Attend progress meetings, contributing insight on build quality and site activity.
The Clerk of Works will have key experience in:
·Acting as Clerk of Works or site inspector on highways or civil engineering schemes.
·Reviewing technical specifications, drawings, and construction details.
·Applying standards such as DMRB, MCHW, and CDM regulations on live sites.
·Working collaboratively with contractors, consultants, and local authority teams.
·Producing detailed reports, defect logs, and photographic records.
·Maintaining high levels of professionalism, independence, and attention to detail.
This is a highly visible and hands-on role within one of the region's most active infrastructure delivery teams. It offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to the quality and safety of key public works while helping to shape the long-term highways network across West Yorkshire.
