Exciting Opportunity for a Highway Inspector in Leicester
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Highway Inspector to join a highways team in Leicester. This role plays a key part in ensuring the safety and integrity of the highway network through the delivery of inspections, enforcement activities and responding to highway-related issues. The successful candidate will carry out routine highway inspections, investigate defects and support enforcement activities to ensure the network remains safe and well maintained.
This is a great opportunity to work within a highways team responsible for maintaining high standards across the local road network while engaging with a range of stakeholders including members of the public, contractors, businesses and utility providers. The role will require travel across the network using your own vehicle.
This is an initial 3-month contract with a likely extension.
The main duties of the Highway Inspector include:
·Carrying out highway condition inspections in accordance with the relevant Code of Practice and inspection schedules.
·Identifying and recording highway defects, prioritising works and raising appropriate repair instructions.
·Recording inspection information accurately within asset management systems.
·Responding to customer enquiries, complaints and requests relating to highway defects and maintenance issues.
·Providing advice and support on highways legislation including the Highways Act and Environmental Protection Act.
·Supporting enforcement activities relating to the highway boundary and unauthorised works.
·Maintaining accurate highway records and ensuring asset information is captured during inspections.
·Working with contractors and internal teams to ensure defects are addressed within required timescales.
·Supporting investigations and providing technical information in relation to highway insurance claims.
The Highway Inspector will have key experience in:
·Working within highways maintenance or civil engineering environments.
·Carrying out highway inspections and identifying defects on the highway network.
·Knowledge of highways legislation including the Highways Act, NRSWA and Traffic Management Act.
·Working with contractors and stakeholders to resolve highway issues.
·Using IT systems and asset management software to record inspections and defects.
·Strong communication and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
