Exciting Opportunity for a Highway Inspection Manager in Nottinghamshire


An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Highway Inspection Manager to join my client's highway maintenance team in Nottinghamshire. This is a senior role responsible for leading and managing the highway inspection service, ensuring statutory compliance, operational efficiency, and the continued safety of the highway network in line with the Highways Act 1980. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience within highway maintenance and inspection, with a clear understanding of risk management, compliance, and performance management.


The main duties of the Highway Inspection Manager include:


·Managing and leading a team of Highway Inspectors to deliver a compliant and effective inspection regime.
·Ensuring inspections are carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, policy, codes of practice and local procedures.
·Overseeing quality assurance of inspection records to support statutory defence in the event of third-party claims.
·Managing and reviewing third-party insurance claims, providing technical input and attending court where required.
·Monitoring performance, KPIs and service delivery standards across the inspection team.
·Developing and implementing inspection programmes, risk-based approaches and service improvements.
·Liaising with elected members, senior stakeholders, contractors, emergency services and the public.
·Ensuring works identified through inspections are prioritised and delivered in line with risk and budget constraints.
·Promoting safe systems of work and ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
·Supporting the development of new systems, technologies, policies and procedures to enhance service delivery.

 

The Highway Inspection Manager will have key experience in:


·Proven experience managing and developing a team of Highway Inspectors within a local authority or contractor environment.
·Leading statutory inspection regimes and ensuring full compliance with the Highways Act 1980 and relevant Codes of Practice.
·Managing Section 41 statutory defence processes, including audit and quality assurance of inspection records.
·Overseeing performance management, KPIs, service standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
·Managing budgets, resource allocation and workload planning across an inspection function.
·Stakeholder management at senior level, including elected members and external partners.
