Job description

Are you a Handback Engineer with Rail Telecoms experience?

Have you previously worked for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 rail contractor on telecoms projects?

Location: Surrey (5 days a week, no work from home)
Rate: £250 to £300 per day dependent on experience OUTSIDE IR35
Contract Length: 6 months rolling

We are seeking an experienced Handback Engineer to support a subcontractor on major rail infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on role within the telecoms function, focused on ensuring that systems are fully tested, compliant, and ready for operational use before formal handback to the client.

You will be expected to collate and maintain Installation Test Packs (ITPs) and redline drawings to reflect all changes and as-built conditions, ensuring the client receives a complete and accurate handback package.

Due to the nature of the work, only candidates with previous handback experience within a Rail Telecoms environment can be considered for this opportunity.

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Handback, Commissioning, or Handover Engineer within rail telecoms projects for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 contractor
  • Strong understanding of rail telecoms systems (e.g., GSM-R, fibre optic networks, SCADA, station comms, CCTV, PA/CIS).
  • Experience with handover and commissioning processes, including documentation and compliance management.
  • Competent in reviewing and producing test results, as-built documentation, and handback certificates.

Desirable:

  • Degree in Electrical, Telecoms, or Systems Engineering.

This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the final stage of rail telecoms projects, ensuring that high-quality, safe, and fully compliant systems are delivered to the client.
