Health & Safety Manager - Utilities

Are you a highly experienced health and safety manager within the utilities or construction sector looking for a new challenge?

Carrington West are pleased to present this exciting new vacancy with our client who are one of the UK's top environmental services companies. Specialising in environmental, drainage and sewer services across a broad range of locations, they are now looking to add to their team with an experienced H&S Manager as a result of consistent and continued growth.

Where they have previously utilised consultants in these roles, they are now looking for a dynamic health and safety manager to come in on a permanent basis and lead and develop the growth of this department internally. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to really shape the direction of the business and would suit an ambitious and dynamic individual with previous experience of either the utilities or construction industry.

Ideally, they are looking for someone open minded, keen to learn about the business and impart their own knowledge and identity on the role. If you have experience working for a tier 1 or senior contractor then this would be viewed as beneficial.

Role responsibilities:

  • Monitoring workplace activities, ensuring employees adhere to company policy and government safety regulations.
  • Responsible for policy development, safety training, equipment and safety inspections and compliance, in relation to H&S guidelines and tender specific regulations.
  • Review and update company risk assessments, safe operating procedures and safety statements. Additionally ensuring these updates are communicated across the company.
  • Undertake safety induction training for all new employees and sub contractors.
  • Develop and carry out audits ensuring all staff and sub contractors are adhering to process.
  • Investigate, record and report any accidents swiftly and ensure corrective action are implemented within the business.
  • Ensure that correct PPE is available and utilised at all time by employees.
  • Review subcontractors safety policies and compliance, ensuring this meets business standards.
  • Attend regular H&S Meetings and prepare H&S information for tenders.
  • Update and prepare paperwork for all safety audits and accreditations including ISO and Achilles.

Essential experience:

  • At least 2/3 years previous experience as a H&S Manager, preferably within the Utilities sector.
  • Strong working knowledge of H&S regulations and legislation.
  • Experience in delivering training and presentations across a business.
  • Previous experience of having prepared H&S documentation for tenders and responding to H&S queries as required.
  • Experience in working with and managing sub contractors.
