Group Traffic Engineer

Are you an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer interested in a new challenge?

I am recruiting for a Group Engineer to support the Delivery & Commissioning Manager for the Traffic Engineering area of Highways Service, the role will manage junior traffic staff, the work includes overseeing the customer service enquiries for traffic and advising on small scheme design, which are delivered in house. The role also manages the Traffic Regulation Order programme

The main responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Management of the Traffic and Road Safety teams
  • To deliver projects to meet council road safety and traffic management objectives
  • To deliver Traffic Regulation order programmes for internal and external clients


General responsibilities and duties:

  • To oversee the implementation of traffic and traffic regulation order programmes
  • To assess and consider professional, technical and legislative documents
  • To carry out the data collection for the management and monitoring of performance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior officers of other departments to effective role in the corporate working of the authority so that Council objectives can be achieved.
  • To recruit appropriate staff to Highways in accordance with Council procedures including those relating to equal opportunities.
  • To communicate fully with all staff and maintain good employee relations.
  • Undertake individual performance appraisals of staff within the team, participate in the development of service training plans and support individual staff development by identifying relevant training and development needs highlighted through personal development needs highlighted through personal development plans.
  • To apply health and safety procedures relevant to the service and communicate and advise where necessary to other staff their responsibilities in this area.
  • To represent the Service and/or lead where necessary on internal and external technical groups/bodies.
  • Management and monitoring of Traffic and Road safety budgets and performance.
