Job description
We are working with a proactive client seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to support their team on a part-time, temporary basis. This is a 2-day-per-week contract for an initial 3-6 month term, with immediate start available.
The successful candidate will focus on Public Health & Nuisance and/or Private Sector Housing, including inspections and enforcement relating to HHSRS and HMOs. This is a hybrid role involving regular on-site visits across the borough, as well as office-based duties.
The Role
·Investigate and respond to complaints and service requests efficiently and in line with departmental and legal procedures.
·Carry out proactive inspections of private sector housing and/or public health nuisance cases.
·Undertake enforcement action as necessary, including evidence gathering and legal follow-up in line with statutory frameworks and best practice guidance.
·Maintain up-to-date records and statutory registers using both written and electronic systems.
·Prepare reports, correspondence, and case files to support legal or internal processes.
·Attend meetings with council departments, local authorities, and external stakeholders as a departmental representative.
·Ensure compliance with Housing Act 2004 (including HHSRS), Environmental Protection Act, and associated regulations.
Key Requirements
·Qualified Environmental Health Officer with EHORB registration (or working towards).
·Strong experience in Private Sector Housing, Public Health, HHSRS, and/or HMO licensing and enforcement.
·Confident conducting inspections and taking enforcement action where required.
·Ability to manage a varied caseload, maintain accurate records, and meet statutory obligations.
·Strong report writing and case management skills.
·Willingness to travel across the borough and attend the office on a hybrid basis.
·Available 2 days per week, with flexible working days subject to agreement.
