Role: Electrical Engineer
Location: Dorset
Salary: up to £55,000 p/a  
 
 
My client supply and support cutting-edge maritime technology for customers worldwide.  Based in, Dorset, they work closely with the UK Royal Navy and global customers to create products which protect lives at sea.
 
Due to the growth of the business, we are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Sonar Electronics team. The successful candidate will be supporting the delivery of bespoke electronics for integration into complex Sonar Systems, with a significant focus on high bandwidth telemetry systems. This includes the design of digital circuits using FPGAs, Analogue low-noise interface circuitry and power amplifier design.

Knowledge, skills and personal qualities required

  • BTEC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent;
  • Understanding of Electrical / Electronic design inconsonance with qualification;
  • Awareness of EMC and CE marking
  • Knowledge / experience of CAD packages for electrical / electronic design;
  • Knowledge of Orcad and EPLAN design packages would be advantageous;
  • Awareness of appropriate drawing and defence standards;
  • Awareness of electrical / electronic design process;
  • Have held or be capable of being nominated Competent person;
  • Consider the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints;
  • Good communication (both written and aural) skills;
  • Assisting in product assessment and applying applicable CE marking directives and harmonised standards, assisting in product
  • assessment to the standards, and compilation of all documentation required for the Technical Construction File;
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, Environment and Quality policies and procedures;
  • Assist / designing and implementing cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and efficiency;
  • Discussing and solving complex problems with sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;
  • Maintain a design data pack, making sure that the item can be made again reliably;
  • Assist producing details of specifications and outline designs;
  • Assist / recommending modifications in the light of prototype test results;
  • Trial support, including work on surface vessels and submarine trials;
  • Support to production during through build and commissioning;
  • Computer literate, experienced in the use of Microsoft Office products;


Challenges:

  • Work/assist on a project from design stage to final commissioning of the new system within the terms of the local Engineering Design
  • Procedure and within the stated parameters of the work package agreement.
  • Assist Senior Engineers as tasked with design/ development tasks

Key accountabilities:

  • Accountable to project managers, technical managers and senior engineers as appropriate
  • Accountable to Team Leader for application of the Design Engineering Procedure
  • Accountable for the production of designs, calculations and associated drawings and documentation
  • Accountable for meeting the stated parameters of the work package agreement
  • Assist in estimating time to produce the required drawings and documents etc
  • Assist in product CE marking
  • To process design tasks through the design phase to meet project requirements
  • Ensure the drawings and documentation meet required standards and maintain the design record

The successful candidate must be able to achieve full SC (Security Clearance).
