Commercial Manager - BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems)
IR35 Status - Outside (Subject to an assessment)
Working arrangement - Office based 2-3 days per week
Contract Duration - 6 month rolling contract, years of work available
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager to join our clients growing team, focusing on large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects that link to the grid, transmitting and distributing electricity. This is a key role responsible for managing the full commercial lifecycle, from pre-contract strategy and tendering through to post-contract administration, variations, and final account settlement. As part of a dynamic team driving the transition to a low-carbon future, you will ensure the financial and contractual success of high-value energy storage projects.
Key Responsibilities
·Lead pre-contract activities including procurement strategy, tender preparation, negotiation, and contract formation
·Oversee post-contract commercial management including cost control, change management, and contract administration
·Manage commercial risk and ensure contract compliance across all stages of the project
·Provide accurate forecasting, reporting, and analysis to ensure profitability and alignment with business goals
·Collaborate with project teams, legal, finance, and technical leads to ensure successful project delivery
·Identify and implement commercial improvements and value engineering opportunities
·Ensure all commercial practices align with company policies and industry best practice
What We're Looking For
·Proven experience as a Commercial Manager (or similar role) with strong pre- and post-contract expertise
·Demonstrated track record working on BESS or related energy infrastructure projects (renewables, grid, or power systems)
·Deep understanding of NEC, FIDIC, or similar forms of contract
·Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and financial acumen
·Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
·Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
