My client is seeking a dedicated Clerk of Works with highways experience who enjoys working on-site, managing contractor performance, and ensuring construction works meet strict specifications and standards.

As a Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for managing and carrying out a schedule of work inspections while exercising sound engineering judgement. You will oversee external contractors, monitor the quality of construction works, and ensure all completed work complies with relevant legislation, technical specifications, and company procedures.

What you will be doing
In this Clerk of Works position, you will:
·Manage and carry out scheduled site inspections across multiple highway works projects
·Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards
·Take proactive action to reduce risks and help ensure projects are delivered within agreed SLAs
·Support programme planning and contribute to improving project controls, reporting processes, and contract management systems
·Liaise closely with contractors to advise on quality control matters and interpret contract documentation
·Conduct pre-work and post-work inspections to confirm works meet required standards and specifications
·Coordinate multiple live projects, ensuring effective communication and prioritisation across workstreams
·Provide technical advice and on-site guidance to contractors regarding quality standards and contract interpretation
·Attend relevant site meetings to provide updates and technical input
·Monitor and promote health and safety standards on site
What you will need to succeed
To be successful as a Clerk of Works, you will ideally have:
·Relevant experience within highway maintenance or highway construction environments
·Experience overseeing contractors and ensuring works are delivered to specific technical specifications
·The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high attention to detail
·Strong decision-making skills with the ability to provide practical on-site technical advice
·Knowledge of health and safety standards along with environmental and sustainability requirements
·A delivery-focused approach with experience working to deadlines and project delivery SLAs
·A valid UK manual driving licence
