Clerk of Works - Corporate Estate Construction Projects
Southampton City Council £30.13 per hour | 37 hours per week | Initial 3-month contract
Southampton City Council is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Clerk of Works to oversee and ensure the quality of construction works across its Corporate Estate portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the built environment of one of the South Coast's most dynamic cities.
Key Responsibilities
·Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and statutory regulations
·Conduct site inspections and produce detailed reports on progress, quality, and health & safety
·Liaise with contractors, consultants, and council stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain high standards
·Ensure materials and workmanship meet contractual and industry standards
·Support project delivery across a range of corporate estate developments, including office refurbishments, civic buildings, and community infrastructure
What We're Looking For
·Proven experience in a Clerk of Works role within public sector or commercial construction
·Strong technical knowledge of building methods, materials, and regulations
·Excellent communication and reporting skills
·Ability to work independently and manage multiple site visits across the city
·Relevant qualifications in construction, surveying, or building inspection (e.g., ICWCI membership desirable)
Contract Details
·Rate: £30.13 per hour (Umbrella)
·Hours: 37 hours per week
·Duration: Initial 3-month contract with potential for extension
·Location: Southampton, with travel across council sites as required
