Job description
Civil Engineering CAD Technician
A leading UK consultancy is looking for a CAD Technician with strong highways and drainage experience, particularly focused on residential development projects. You'll play a vital part in delivering infrastructure and environmental consultancy services that span transport planning, flood risk and drainage design, infrastructure layout, and topographical mapping.
Key Responsibilities
·Produce high-quality 2D and 3D CAD drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, applying professional standards for highways layouts and residential drainage schemes.
·Support infrastructure design teams by drafting site plans, road layouts, drainage networks, SuDS features, and setting-out drawings.
·Help develop flood risk assessments and drainage strategies, translating analytical findings into clear, compliant CAD documentation.
·Collaborate with topographical survey data to produce accurate, scaled plans for design and engineering purposes.
·Ensure all CAD deliverables align with technical specifications, planning requirements, and industry best practices.
·Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, including transport planners, engineers, environmental specialists, topographical surveyors, and external stakeholders to coordinate design work.
·Contribute to site feasibility assessments and support pre-planning and post-consent phases for residential infrastructure design.
Ideal Candidate Profile
·Experience as a CAD Technician or similar, with hands-on work in highways layout and drainage design, ideally in residential developments or SUDS schemes.
·Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and familiarity with producing topographical site plans.
·Strong understanding of flood risk, drainage strategies, and how these integrate within broader infrastructure design projects.
·Highly organised and detail-oriented, with a proactive, collaborative approach to solving design challenges.
·Excellent communication skills, able to coordinate effectively across teams and deliver clear, accurate technical outputs.
·A passion for continuous professional development and contributing to sustainable, cost-effective design solutions-aligned with a consultancy known for innovative infrastructure and environmental services.
Why This Is a Great Opportunity
·Join a well-respected UK consultancy specialising in transport planning, infrastructure design, flood risk, and topographical surveys-working on projects ranging from single-unit developments to major regeneration and infrastructure schemes.
·Be part of a multidisciplinary team that brings technical expertise, advanced knowledge, and strategic insight to all stages of project delivery.
·Benefit from a supportive culture with excellent career development, from technical progression and exposure to diverse project types to potential for hybrid or flexible working.
·Work on designs that help shape sustainable, liveable environments-from residential roads and drainage networks to flood-resilient infrastructure.
