Job description
Building Surveyor (Client-Side) - Cambridge City Council 
Contract: Initial 12 months | Hours: 37 per week | Rate: Negotiable (Umbrella) 
Location: Bermuda Terrace Estate, Cambridge 
The opportunity 
Cambridge City Council is seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to act as the day-to-day client representative on a substantial planned maintenance programme at the Bermuda Terrace Estate (73 flats across six blocks). Works (structural and external) commenced in September 2025 with an approximate contract value of £1.2m. 
You'll be the Council's on-site lead, ensuring quality, value and excellent resident communication throughout delivery. 
Key responsibilities 
·Act as the Council's daily point of contact for the project, coordinating internal stakeholders and reporting on progress, risks and KPIs. 
·Oversee workmanship and quality on site; carry out inspections, snagging and sign-offs. 
·Review and advise on contract variations, valuations and programme impacts. 
·Work closely with the appointed consultants Ridge Associates (CA/designer/cost consultant). 
·Manage resident and leaseholder engagement, handling queries professionally and supporting clear communications. 
·Ensure compliance with H&S/CDM duties from a client perspective and escalate issues promptly. 
·Maintain accurate project records, reports and audit trails. 
About you 
·Proven experience delivering planned maintenance projects to occupied residential blocks (local authority/ALMO/RP experience beneficial). 
·Strong contract administration literacy (e.g., JCT), able to scrutinise variations and costs. 
·Confident site presence with excellent quality, defect and technical diagnosis skills. 
·Outstanding stakeholder skills, especially with leaseholders and residents. 
·Organised, proactive and calm under pressure; able to drive contractors to programme and quality. 
·Relevant technical qualification in Building Surveying (HNC/HND/Degree). MRICS/MCIOB desirable.
