Junior Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist
Location: Newcastle
Type: Permanent
Due to a healthy forward workload, we are looking to recruit a Junior Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join our Newcastle team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with 1+ years' industry experience who is looking to develop their skills and gain exposure to a wide range of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects across multiple sectors.
You will work closely with senior colleagues, assisting in project delivery, site investigations, and technical reporting, while developing your technical expertise and progressing towards professional accreditation.
Key Responsibilities
·Assist with the planning, organisation, and delivery of ground investigations for a variety of projects in sectors such as infrastructure, residential, commercial, industrial, and leisure developments.
·Undertake site supervision for intrusive investigations, including logging of soils and rock in accordance with relevant standards.
·Support the preparation of Preliminary Risk Assessments and desk studies.
·Assist in compiling factual and interpretative reports, including basic geotechnical analysis and interpretation of laboratory results.
·Help prepare technical drawings and figures using software such as AutoCAD or GIS (training provided).
·Gain exposure to geotechnical design principles, including foundations, slope stability, retaining structures, and earthworks.
·Learn to apply relevant health, safety, and environmental standards to fieldwork and reporting.
·Work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team including geotechnical, geo-environmental, civil, and structural engineers.
About You
·Degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related discipline (MSc in Geotechnics or Engineering Geology beneficial but not essential).
·1+ years' relevant industry experience (e.g. graduate role, placement year, or post-degree work in site investigation or geotechnical engineering).
·Basic understanding of ground investigation techniques, laboratory testing, and geotechnical engineering principles.
·Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn from senior team members.
·Good written and verbal communication skills.
·Competent in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or geotechnical design software is beneficial but training will be provided.
·A full UK driving licence is essential, as site visits are part of the role.
