An excellent opportunity has arisen for a proactive and leadership-focused Works Manager to support the in-house delivery teams within a dynamic local authority setting. Based in Nottingham, this role is available from 9th June (flexible start possible), initially running until 30th August with a strong possibility of extension.

This critical role supports a service area undergoing positive change and transformation. As Works Manager, you'll be instrumental in driving operational excellence and frontline engagement, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of vital highway services. From planned resurfacing and drainage improvements to emergency response and infrastructure upgrades, your leadership will shape the delivery of a broad and impactful programme of works.

The main duties of the Works Manager are:

·Lead the operational coordination and supervision of in-house highway maintenance teams.
·Manage the planning, programming, and delivery of a varied portfolio of works, including resurfacing, footway reconstruction, and drainage schemes.
·Support the implementation of reactive maintenance and emergency response tasks across the city.
·Ensure the effective day-to-day running of site operations and liaise closely with frontline staff.
·Contribute to service improvement initiatives and support the ongoing transformation of the highways service.

The Works Manager will have key experience in:

·Leading operational teams in a highways, construction, or public works environment.
·Providing clear leadership and support to frontline operatives.
·Coordinating works programmes, site inspections, and resource allocation.
·Managing operational challenges while maintaining service delivery standards.
·Communicating effectively with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
·Adapting to service changes with a practical and solution-focused approach.

A council vehicle will be provided for site inspections and operational duties. Depending on your proximity to Nottingham, you may be permitted to take the van home, subject to business-only usage rules.
