Job description
Exciting opportunity for a Streetlighting Inspector
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dependable and detail-oriented Streetlighting Night Inspector to support my client's highways lighting team across Leicestershire. This is a temporary contract role expected to last around 3 months, or until allocated funding is fully utilised. It's a perfect fit for someone with proven experience in streetlighting and inspection work, seeking flexible, independent night-time hours in a public sector setting.
This role plays a key part in maintaining road safety and compliance by ensuring that illuminated road signs across the county are present and functioning correctly. Working independently at night, the successful candidate will complete a high volume of on-site inspections using a provided work vehicle and streetlighting inventory. Each shift runs for 7.5 hours from dusk to dawn, with the vehicle returned to base after completion.
The main duties of the Streetlighting Night Inspector are:
·Driving to various sites across Leicestershire using a provided illuminated sign inventory.
·Recording the presence and operational status of illuminated road signs.
·Conducting detailed visual inspections of lighting units during night hours.
·Logging inspection results accurately into the county-wide system.
·Completing around 11,500 inspections over the course of the assignment.
The Streetlighting Night Inspector will have key experience in:
·Streetlighting systems, streetlight inspection, and highways asset assessment.
·Navigating and driving across large geographic areas (a full UK driving licence is essential).
·Working independently and reliably during unsociable night-time hours.
·Accurately documenting inspection results, both manually and digitally.
·Performing methodical, repetitive tasks with consistency and attention to detail.
This is a hands-on, field-based role that requires a confident, self-motivated individual with a solid background in streetlighting and inspection work. You must be comfortable working alone during night shifts, have strong situational awareness, and be committed to delivering high-quality inspection data.
