Senior Transport Planner
 
Job Role Overview
 
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will play a strategic and technical leadership role in the delivery of transport planning and development consultancy services. You will be responsible for the transport planning input to complex projects, provide expert advice to clients, conduct site visits, and mentor junior staff. Working across a variety of sectors, you'll lead on transport strategies, planning applications, and sustainable mobility schemes, while contributing to the growth and development of the business. This role is ideal for an experienced consultant ready to take greater ownership of projects, clients, and innovation in transport planning.
 
Key Areas of Responsibility
 
- Lead the delivery of access appraisals, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and transport input to ES Chapters to support planning applications for a variety of development projects.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery, high quality, and client satisfaction.
- Oversee technical assessments including junction modelling (e.g., Junctions 11, LINSIG), trip generation (TRICS), and accessibility analysis.
- Undertake site visits to assess access, existing conditions, and potential constraints or opportunities.
- Provide strategic transport advice to clients, design teams, and local authorities.
- Coordinate with planning consultants, architects, engineers, and transport officers.
- Review and quality-assure work produced by Graduate, Assistant, and Transport Planners to a standard appropriate for final Associate/Associate Director review.
- Lead client meetings, stakeholder consultations, and public engagement where required.
- Contribute to business development through proposal writing, fee estimation, and networking.
- Identify opportunities to attend networking events to engage and build relationships with peers.
- Maintain strong awareness of evolving planning policy, guidance, and best practice.
- Support the professional development of junior staff through mentoring and training.
- Engage in opportunities for networking, targeting specific sectors and companies.
 
Reporting Structure
 
You will report to an Associate or Associate Director of the company and may supervise Graduate & Assistant Transport Planners depending on project and organisational needs. You'll have responsibility for both project delivery and client management, with opportunities to contribute to team leadership and company strategy.

- Client-facing confidence, with experience building and maintaining relationships.
- Working toward or holding professional accreditation (e.g. TPP, CTPP, or chartership with CIHT/TPS).
