Job description

An exciting opportunity to join a well-established chartered building consultancy that is expanding its services and looking to appoint an experienced Structural Engineer to lead a new structural engineering function within the business.

The role is based in Henley-on-Thames with a flexible hybrid setup (typically 1 day per week in the office).

Role Overview

As Senior Structural Engineer, you will lead the technical design and delivery of structural engineering projects, working closely with surveyors and designers across the wider professional team.

This role is ideal for a Chartered Structural or Civil Engineer who wants the autonomy to build and grow a new discipline within an established, forward-thinking consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural design on a range of new build, extension and alteration projects (domestic, commercial and heritage).
  • Prepare structural calculations, drawings and specifications in line with Eurocodes and UK Building Regulations (Part A).
  • Undertake structural inspections and produce clear reports on structural defects, stability and remedial design solutions.
  • Liaise with architects, building surveyors, contractors and clients to deliver coordinated design information.
  • Provide technical support to the wider surveying and fire safety teams.
  • Manage workloads, deadlines and project budgets effectively.
  • Contribute to the development of internal systems, templates and QA processes for the structural engineering function.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng MICE or MIStructE) - essential.
  • MEng or MSc in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years' post-graduate experience in structural design and analysis.
  • Proficient with modern structural design software such as MasterSeries, Tekla, SCIA Engineer or Autodesk Robot.
  • Strong understanding of Eurocodes, BS standards and Building Regulations (Part A).
  • Experience with BIM/Revit or Tekla is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise technical reports.
