Senior/Principal EC&I Engineer

  • Location: Plymouth (Hybrid)
  • Contract Length: 12 months
  • Rate: £500 Per Day Inside IR35
  • Site expectations: 3x a week, on-site

We are seeking a Senior/Principal EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) Engineer to join our Major Infrastructure Projects Business Unit, based in Plymouth. This role will primarily focus on managing and ensuring the delivery of site quality through the installation and commissioning of electrical activities at the submarine refit complex. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support, managing inspections, and ensuring that contractors adhere to project specifications and timelines.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the effective delivery of site quality by managing and supporting the installation and commissioning processes for electrical works in the submarine refit complex.
  • Provide expert advice to the construction and project teams, communicating effectively with contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve site issues and technical queries during construction in line with contract deadlines.
  • Accountable to the Lead Construction Manager for day-to-day planning matters, ensuring that all activities are coordinated efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure contractors adhere to the scope of works, any change requests, and integrated test plans. Record inspections to ensure compliance with these specifications.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop technical solutions to installation challenges, and participate in the development of designs to address installation deficiencies.
  • Supervise and provide on-the-job guidance to junior staff, ensuring their development and fostering a learning environment. Make effective use of "Learn from Experience" feedback to improve practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the construction, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of facilities, ensuring compliance with the design intent, DNSP's (Designated Nuclear Safety Procedures), and all relevant local and national regulations.
  • Support on-site inspections of DRDL (Defence Equipment & Support) assets, including their construction, maintenance, and modification. Maintain detailed records and ensure that all procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Maintain familiarity with DRDL procedures used within Facilities Engineering and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A relevant degree in Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in EC&I engineering, particularly within the nuclear or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Strong understanding of electrical installations, commissioning processes, and quality control.
  • Previous experience in overseeing contractors and ensuring adherence to contract specifications.
  • Familiarity with nuclear-related works and safety procedures is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to mentor and guide junior staff.
