Job description

Our client is looking for a Service Manager with Highways Pavement experience to lead and manage a team of engineers and technicians, delivering Services to customers in the public and private sector.  
 
The team:
The transport asset services you'll be accountable for are broad and diverse and include road infrastructure asset data collection including pavement surveying, quality assurance services and testing services related to transport safety.
 
You'll manage the budget, be accountable for delivering existing services and lead the design of new service offerings striving for the safe, efficient and effective operations of profitable services that meet customer needs.  
 
With experience in delivering services ideally within the transport, construction, highways or similar industry, our ideal candidate will be an experienced line manager with either significant project management or service delivery expertise.  
 
Key Responsibilities
 
·Ensure the delivery of quality, right first time, asset services that delight our customers.
·Drive the growth of asset services by developing customer relationships, creating winning tender responses and leading the development of new service offerings ,
·Provide professional people management of direct and indirect reports ensuring staff are well communicated to, have meaningful objectives and any performance issues are appropriately actioned.  
·Drive continuous improvement to provide profitable services that meet customer needs.
·Manage the budget for asset services operations and facilities - making the case for needed investment.
·Lead the Services teams, promoting and embedding a culture of safety first.
·Lead and manage significant pieces of work within the service, coaching and mentoring others within the team to develop these skills.  
·Ensure that all works have in place an appropriate contract, risk assessment, that all team members have the required competency and are suitably briefed to provide a professional service.
 
Skills & Experience
Essential
 
·A proven track record in leading and managing service contracts to a broad range of customers, and involving multiple subcontractors.
·Experience of managing teams working in construction or high risk HSE type environments.
·Experienced people manager, ideally with management training.  
·A formal Health and Safety qualification is required,.
·Experience in project managing or leading complex, high risk service delivery projects involving multiple sub-contractors.
·Experience in responding to and winning tenders.
 
Desirable
 
·A Lean Six Sigma certification or similar continuous improvement qualification or experience.
·Experience within the transport industry with knowledge of highways standards.
·A certification and experience of working under CDM Regulations 2015.
·A formal project management or service management qualification.
·Knowledge of NEC contract variants.
·Communication Requirements
 
Eligible candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and team working skills, together with fluency in both verbal and written English.
