Job description
Are you an experienced Senior Project Engineer who thrives on site, enjoys the challenge of complex heavy civils, and knows the NEC Supervisor role?
Do you have experience on major civils works like bridges, viaducts or railway stations?
Salary: £73,946.40 to £92,433 DOE (£61,622 - £77,028 + 20% Flexible Cash Fund)
Location: Birmingham, 3 days in office per week, remainder from home.
Deadline: 1st February
Reporting to the Head of Engineering and Environment, you will act as a Senior Project Engineer with a strong focus on the NEC Supervisor function. The project is a landmark, multi-hundred-million-pound transport hub, combining extensive railway viaduct works with a highly complex building structure delivered over the next eight years.
For the next three to four years, the focus is firmly on heavy civils: multi-span viaducts, bridges and complex interfaces, followed by architectural and MEP fit-out in later phases. This is a site-facing role, similar in nature to a resident engineer, with daily interaction with the main contractor.
Around 60 to 75 percent of your time will be spent undertaking NEC Supervisor duties, supporting the designated Supervisor and ensuring construction quality meets design intent and contractual requirements.
Essential requirements
- Strong experience operating as an NEC Supervisor under NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts
- Solid engineering background with the ability to confidently engage on steel and concrete fundamentals
- Proven site-based experience on major infrastructure or heavy civils projects
- Comfortable working in a demanding construction environment with daily contractor interaction
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of NEC contract mechanics
- CDM awareness and understanding of Principal Designer responsibilities
- Experience with construction quality assurance and technical compliance
Desirable experience
- Background in rail, highways or major transport infrastructure
- Experience on viaducts, bridges or complex multi-span structures
- Main contractor or resident engineer experience
- Exposure to large, complex projects where interfaces and build quality are critical
Why apply?
You will be joining a long-term, prestigious programme at a pivotal stage, with heavy civils well underway and a clear pipeline of work ahead. The role offers genuine autonomy, a collaborative contractor relationship, and the chance to build long-term capability in complex rail infrastructure and systems.
If you are looking for a senior, site-focused engineering role with real responsibility and legacy, this is an opportunity not to be missed.
