Senior Port Health Officer - Contract 
 
Are you a qualified Environmental Health or Port Health professional looking for a role where you can be the first line of defence in the management and safety of our food imports with the opportunity to further progress your career?

Who will you be joining?  
A South East based Local Authority that controls the safety and security of UK imports and exports are seeking additional support as part of a large team of professionals tasked with safeguarding the public health of our nation. 
 
What will you do? 
Within this role you will have a versatile list of responsibilities which includes but is not limited to the following: 
·Conduct Official Controls including carrying out checks on imports of products of animal origin and high-risk food not of animal origin 
·Perform physical, identity, documentary etc. checks of products of animal origin (POAO) and high risks food not of animal origin (HRFNAO) in order to ensure that only products that are safe to eat enter the food chain. 
·Carry out the role of Official Fish Inspector (OFI) 
·Compile inspection reports, legal notices and take further legal actions as necessary including seizure, detention, and prosecution. 
·Assist in the training and development of team 
 
What do you need?  
To be successful in your application for this role you will need to demonstrate the following on application and through the interview process:  
·Suitable qualification(s) to undertake import controls at Border Control Posts as defined by the FSA Food Law Code of Practice and the accompanying Practice Guidance. This will normally be a MSc, Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board EHRB (CIEH) 
·Enforcement experience covering a wide range of food areas including inspection of premises, monitoring and food sampling plus prosecution experience. 
·Able to interpret and analyse food safety, health & safety and public health legislation, statutory guidance, technical updates and good practice
