Job description

Are you an Electrical Design Engineer with experience in low voltage rail systems, looking to work on long-term, secured infrastructure programmes?

Do you want to be part of a growing design team delivering major projects across DNO works, station upgrades and signalling power, with strong career progression and flexibility?

Salary: £50,000 to £75,000 DOE (top end for CREs with E&B experience)
Location: Preston Brook, Sheffield, or York – hybrid working (typically 3 days in office, flexible)

A well-established and busy rail engineering consultancy is looking to expand its design team due to a strong pipeline of secured work across CP7 and major frameworks. With long-term programmes in place through to 2027 and beyond, this is an excellent opportunity to join a business in a strong position within a challenging market.

The team is delivering a wide range of electrical and E&P design work across rail infrastructure, including a major multi-year DNO programme focused on earthing and bonding, alongside station works, depot upgrades, and signalling power projects. You’ll be working in a collaborative environment across multidisciplinary teams, contributing to both 2D and 3D design delivery.

Essential requirements

  • Experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within rail (experience in signalling power, DNO works or station electrification
  • Strong understanding of low voltage electrical systems
  • Understanding of relevant standards and design processes
  • Ability to manage workload and work both independently and within a team
  • Knowledge of Network Rail standards

Desirable experience

  • CRE and earthing and bonding experience
  • Design & build or site-based experience
