Job description
We're working in partnership with a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor to recruit a talented Section Engineer to join their team on a major UK infrastructure project.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious engineer who's looking to take the next step in their career - contributing to the delivery of large-scale civil works, mentoring junior staff, and supporting the senior project team in delivering technical excellence.
The Role
As a Section Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the successful technical delivery of works on site. You'll provide engineering support to the project team, assist in managing labour, materials and subcontractors, and take responsibility for accurate setting out and quality control.
Your main responsibilities will include:
·Supporting the Senior Engineer in implementing the project's engineering strategy and framework
·Producing setting out information, sketches and QA documentation (ITPs, check sheets, etc.)
·Managing and maintaining a variety of surveying equipment
·Assisting with materials, plant and labour management
·Preparing Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Temporary Works Briefs
·Conducting site inspections and maintaining quality records
·Identifying and raising technical queries or non-conformances as required
·Producing and tracking weekly programmes and KPIs
·Monitoring labour and plant usage and reporting on productivity and costs
About You
We're looking for someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about delivering high-quality engineering work. You'll ideally have experience on civil or infrastructure projects and be ready to take ownership of your own section of works.
Key skills and experience include:
·Relevant engineering qualification (Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent)
·Working towards (or already holding) professional accreditation such as MICE or MIStructE
·Strong understanding of setting out, QA processes, and construction tolerances
·Familiarity with BIM principles and model-based working (desirable)
·Valid CSCS card
·Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior team members
·A proactive approach to health, safety and quality management
5 days per week on site 7.30am to 5.30pm
potential to nights and weekends as overtime - overtime rate will be applicable 1.25 and 1.5
