Quantity Surveyor - Highways

Carrington West are currently helping a Highways contractor with their search for a Quantity Surveyor to assist in the delivery and governance of commercial services to the client in a manner that achieves both value for money for our client and sustainable shareholder value consistent with the contract(s), tender and agreed processes in the spirit of mutual trust and co-operation.

To ensure the timely administration of the contracts including monthly payment assessments and change control. This role will require strict time management to suit varying workloads in line with allocated budgets and assisting with the training and development of junior staff including where required line management of the same.  
 
Key Accountabilities:

·Commercial responsibility for allocated Task Orders / works completed under the Highways Contract as reasonably required.
·Ensuring robust commercial processes are in place.
·Managing the supply chain ensuring timely assessments and payments are made.
·Develop strong working relationships with both the design, operational delivery and Client commissioning team, reporting on costs, assist in forecasting and managing budgets.
·Procurement of supply chain partners.
·Timely and diligent contract administration.
·Direct works cost control, managing and forecasting including reporting on outputs / productivity.
·Potential line management and / or mentoring of junior members of staff to promote growth and development.
 
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

·A solid understanding of general IT systems (Microsoft Office suite, in particular Excel)
·An understanding of cost and contract management systems (i.e. Causeway Project Accounting, Microsoft Dynamics and CEMAR) would be beneficial.
·An understanding of civil engineering and highways measurement principles and be capable of practical application of the same to complete or assess take offs from drawings, production of BoQs or Activity Schedules as required would be beneficial.
·An understanding of all main forms of NEC contract.
·Good time management skills in order to meet deadlines.
·The role is broad and includes anything from estimating, risk management, procurement, financial reporting and managing both the supply chain and direct works.
·Among the qualities the ideal candidate must possess are good commercial awareness, good communication skills, project management and the ability to negotiate.
·Past experience in a similar role would be beneficial.
