Job description

My client is currently looking for a Principal Transport Planner to join them in their new Cambridge which is just a stroll across from Cambridge Station. This is a great opportunity to join the Transport team and be part of ambitious plans for growth, being a key part of delivering projects at varying scales for a wide variety of clients, primarily in the East of England, but also further afield across the UK.

They are fortunate to work with an excellent range of clients and their approach to delivery provides them with a reputation as one of the leading development consultancies in the local market.

You will work amongst a team of like-minded transport professionals and will oversee all aspects of projects from inception to completion. An important part of your role will be to help mentor and guide junior colleagues to help you and the team with the effective delivery of high-quality transport assessments, travel plans, transport modelling and environmental assessments. You will also help with developing client relationships and support the delivery of a wide range of regional and national projects, contributing towards business planning and work winning that delivers our future growth ambitions.

Your role will be varied and challenging, and there will be opportunities for you to develop and progress your own career. To support your work life balance, they can offer the flexibility of a balance between home and office working.

You will have experience of mentoring junior staff and managing projects (budget control, fee letters, invoicing etc.) reflecting company values. Although not essential it would be beneficial for you to have good knowledge of the local market and transport context of this area.

Your experience of working with developer and local authority clients across a range of sectors (such as residential, commercial, infrastructure) will be important as well as a sound background knowledge in the planning system.

A degree in transportation/town planning, geography, economics or similar is important and ideally you would be working towards chartership. You will have demonstrable experience in leading others in delivering transport planning solutions.  You will have experience dealing directly with clients, a collaborative attitude and the ability to present complex projects and concepts to fellow professionals, and internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
