Plant & Transport Manager

Location: Sussex
Salary: Up to £65k (depending on skillset and experience)
Additional: Car allowance, 25 days holiday, pension scheme and life assurance

We are working alongside our client, a well-established Utilities main contractor, to assist with an exciting new vacancy that has opened up within their health and safety team.
The successful candidate will manage the Company's Plant and Transport function ensuring that appropriate, well-maintained plant and transport is provided to their contracts for the least long-term cost and delivered to the required programme and all whilst ensuring activities are carried out to the highest practicable safety standard.

Responsibilities:

  • Named Transport Manager for the firms Operator's License
  • Maintain all plant and transport in an appropriate condition
  • Maintain the plant yard in an appropriate condition with particular regard to health and safety and environmental issues
  • Provide plant and transport for the least long-term cost
  • Ensure the plant and transport function runs as efficiently and cost effectively as possible
  • Ensure all plant, equipment and transport is properly tested / calibrated / serviced / insured / MOT'd
  • Ensure that known company vehicle drivers are legitimate and authorised to drive the vehicle they are allocated
  • Ensure internal plant invoicing is up to date
  • Constantly monitor utilisation of plant to assist in purchasing decisions
  • Assist in clearing plant invoices promptly
  • Manage the Plant and Transport Coordinator, administration staff, fitters and drivers (e.g. level of resource, holidays, sick leave, training, etc.)
  • Recruit fitters, drivers, and administration staff as necessary
  • Ensure contracts are charged appropriately for internal plant and transport
  • Responsible for time sheets and wages of all Plant and Transport staff
  • Ensure compliance with legal and corporate standards
  • Undertake recorded safety audit visits
  • Introduce new systems and procedures to improve performance/efficiency
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of staff
  • Attend and contribute to pre-start meetings
  • Identifying items of plant and transport to procure following appropriate authorisation

Required skills:

  • Certificate of Professional Competence CILT Level 3
  • Have a working knowledge of GB Domestic Rules
  • 5-years demonstrable experience in a similar role
  • Competent in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Full driving licence
