Job description

Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in the East Midlands in the search for a Planning Enforcement Officer to join their Town Planning department on a 6-12 month contract.
 
The main purpose of the role is to assist in providing a high quality, customer-focused planning service by investigating a wide range of alleged breaches of planning control including on Gypsy and Traveller sites.
 
Main responsibilities:
·Investigate and monitor cases of alleged breaches of planning control. These investigations may include - clarifying if the allegation constitutes development; reviewing the site history; assessing the extent of permitted development rights; interviewing and taking statements from developers, builders, complainants and others under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act; taking photographs and measurements; comparing measurements or materials on site against submitted drawings and plans.
·Contribute to the efficient running of the service as a member of the wider planning enforcement team.
·Maintain records of all investigations, including the preparation of formal file notes, ensuring that any evidence is presented in a logical and coherent manner.
·Accurately record and respond to service requests in relation to alleged breaches of planning control on Gypsy and Traveller sites, ensuring databases and records are maintained accurately and cases are regularly reviewed for action.
 
In order to successfully deliver the responsibilities of the role, you will need to have a NVQ Level 5 in a relevant subject or equivalent experience and evidence of continuous professional development. Eligibility for membership of Royal Town Planning Institute's National Association for Planning Enforcement (NAPE) would be desirable but isn't essential.
