Managing Quantity Surveyor - Highways Infrastructure
My client is looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Featherstone, Wakefield. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute professional who wants to play a key role in driving financial performance, supporting operational success, and shaping the commercial direction of highways infrastructure projects.

My client operates within the civil engineering and infrastructure sector, delivering projects with a strong focus on quality, commercial rigour, and client satisfaction. They are looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor who can bring leadership, sound judgement, and a proactive approach to commercial management within a fast-paced environment.
What you will be doing
As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for maintaining strict commercial control across the business and promoting a culture of financial discipline. You will work closely with both pre-contract and operational teams to ensure projects are commercially robust from tender stage through to completion.
You will be doing the following:
·Working closely with the Pre-Contract Manager to identify and capitalise on new leads
·Liaising with the estimator to support competitive pricing while maintaining margin objectives
·Responding efficiently to client requests during pre-contract stages to support a smooth handover into delivery
·Feeding back lessons learned from live projects to refine future estimates and strengthen future bids
·Managing project cash collection, including timely applications and the resolution of client queries
·Overseeing change management, including the submission and agreement of compensation events and maintaining CE registers and/or CEMAR
·Implementing cost control measures, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and advising on value engineering
·Producing turnover and margin budgets and forecasts in collaboration with operational colleagues
·Supporting operational teams to deliver projects efficiently and within budget
·Reviewing contract terms to ensure commercial risks are identified, understood, and appropriately managed
·Leading contract negotiations and managing key documentation including bills of quantities, scopes of work, and terms and conditions
·Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and supporting the resolution of disputes or claims where required
·Monitoring project performance against contract requirements and advising on variations and scope change
·Responding promptly and professionally to client and stakeholder requests
·Overseeing project cash flow, invoicing, interim valuations, and final accounts
·Providing detailed cost and financial reporting to senior management, highlighting risks, opportunities, and overall performance
What you will need to bring
To be considered for this role, you should have:
·A BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, or equivalent qualification
·Extensive experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within a civil engineering environment
·Strong knowledge of construction contracts, particularly NEC forms of contract
·A solid understanding of estimating from first principles
·Experience in the commercial management of highways infrastructure projects would be highly beneficial
·Proven people management experience, or the ability to lead and influence commercial teams effectively
·Strong communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
·A proactive and organised approach to commercial risk, cost management, and contract administration
Salary and package
·Salary: £85,000, dependent on experience
·Car allowance: £7,500 per annum
·Holidays: 25 days, increasing by 0.5 days per year to a maximum of 28 days
·Group Life Assurance: 4x basic salary
·Private Medical Insurance
