Job description
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer with Mechanical experience to support a major defence project at a secure, highly regulated site near Reading. This is mid-level role, supporting the management team; site-based & requiring a high level of technical expertise, and experience in commissioning, testing, and assurance of mechanical systems and equipment within safety-critical environments.
Role: Commissioning Engineer - Mechanical Bias
Location: Reading (site-based)
Salary: £46,000 to £65,000 (Based on year's experience)
Key Responsibilities
·Commissioning, testing, and validation of mechanical equipment on a complex defence project and on occasion provide mentorship to junior commissioning engineers and site teams.
·Follow commissioning strategies, test procedures, and method statements, alongside supporting functional testing, fault finding, and troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems.
·Ensure all commissioning activities comply with project requirements, CDM regulations, and site safety procedures.
·Produce and follow high-quality technical reports, test records, and handover documentation and lead technical reviews, progress meetings, and commissioning coordination sessions.
·Support the resolution of technical issues, non-conformances, and commissioning shortfalls while acting as a key technical interface between commissioning, design, construction, and safety teams.
Essential Experience & Skills
·Proven experience in a Commissioning Engineer (Mechanical bias) role within a highly regulated industry (defence, nuclear, petrochemical, utilities, or similar)
·Strong technical knowledge of mechanical engineering commissioning processes, standards, and best practice
·In-depth understanding of CDM regulations and formal permit-to-work systems
·Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capability on complex systems
