Hydraulic Modeller
You're looking for a role where your modelling expertise directly influences flood resilience and sustainable development. This Hydraulic Modeller opportunity gives you technical ownership of complex flood risk and drainage projects, alongside clear progression and the chance to mentor others.
You'll be joining a well-established water and infrastructure consultancy that specialises in delivering sustainable development solutions. The team supports public and private sector clients with flood risk advice, drainage strategies and detailed design, working on projects from planning through to construction across the UK.
As a Hydraulic Modeller, you will be doing the following on a day-to-day basis:
·Delivering hydraulic modelling and flood risk projects from inception through to construction
·Leading and mentoring junior hydraulic modellers and engineers
·Producing, reviewing and checking Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies
·Building, running and interpreting river and surface water models using Flood Modeller / TUFLOW and InfoWorks ICM
·Developing concept and detailed designs for flood protection and surface water management schemes
·Acting as a client-facing Hydraulic Modeller, providing clear technical advice and attending meetings
·Assisting with and independently producing fee proposals and verifying technical outputs
·Managing multiple projects concurrently while maintaining technical and commercial quality
To succeed as a Hydraulic Modeller, you will bring:
·A degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent commercial experience
·Typically 5-8 years' post-graduate experience in hydraulic modelling, flood risk or drainage
·Strong experience using Flood Modeller / TUFLOW and InfoWorks ICM
·Proven experience in flood mitigation design from concept through to detailed design
·Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies
·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client-facing environments
·Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
·A good working knowledge of UK policy and guidance such as NPPF, FWMA 2010 and WIA 1991
Experience in foul and surface water sewer design using WinDES, InfoDrain or Flow, and familiarity with S104 agreements, would be advantageous but is not essential.
Salary for this Hydraulic Modeller position is dependent on experience, with a competitive benefits package that reflects the level of responsibility.
You'll be based in Central London, working within a collaborative and technically strong water team. The role offers clear progression opportunities, including support toward or continuation of CEng status (MICE or CIWEM), along with ongoing professional development. Flexible working arrangements may be available depending on project needs.
