We are currently seeking a dedicated and motivated Housing Options Officer to join our team in Devon on a 3 month contract. This is a rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in providing professional housing advice, managing allocations, and preventing homelessness across the district.
As a Housing Options Officer, you will work closely with individuals and families in housing need, offering support, guidance, and practical solutions. You will deliver services in accordance with council policies, maintaining a high standard of customer care, and ensuring decisions are made in line with current legislation.
You will be responsible for assessing applications through Devon Home Choice, making homelessness decisions, allocating temporary and permanent accommodation, and working closely with partner organisations such as Housing Associations and support agencies. A key part of your role will be to help prevent homelessness through early intervention and targeted advice, while also contributing to the ongoing development of housing services across the area.
You'll also be expected to conduct home visits to assess housing needs and support vulnerable applicants.
Key Responsibilities:
·Provide advice and assistance to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
·Make decisions on homelessness applications and housing allocations in line with legislation.
·Maintain and apply Devon Home Choice policies within a defined area of Mid Devon.
·Liaise with housing providers to ensure access to suitable temporary and permanent accommodation.
·Support the Housing Options Manager in project work and deputise as required.
·Prepare reports and statistics related to homelessness and lettings performance.
·Undertake relevant training and stay up to date with housing legislation and best practice.
What We're Looking For:
·Knowledge of housing legislation and homelessness prevention (training can be provided).
·Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
·A compassionate and customer-focused approach.
·Ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.
·The position is hybrid, with a requirement to be in the office at least two to three days per week.
