Highways Inspector
East London
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 per annum

Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Highways Inspector to join a well-established highways maintenance team operating across East London. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, condition, and legal compliance of the public highway network.
Key Responsibilities
·Conduct scheduled safety inspections and condition surveys of the highway network.
·Identify and report highway defects in accordance with council and national standards.
·Monitor contractor works to ensure compliance with specifications and health & safety requirements.
·Record and escalate urgent or high-risk issues as appropriate.
·Respond to public reports and enquiries, providing clear and timely updates.
·Maintain accurate inspection records using digital reporting tools.
·Support emergency inspections, including out-of-hours when required.
·Collaborate with engineers, maintenance teams, and third-party contractors.
Essential Requirements
·Demonstrable experience in highways inspections, maintenance, or civil engineering.
·NRSWA Unit 2 accreditation (or equivalent).
·Full UK driving licence.
·Proficiency with mobile inspection/reporting systems.
·Strong knowledge of highway legislation and inspection frameworks (e.g. WMHI Code).
·High level of attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
Desirable
·HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or similar discipline.
·Training in road safety inspections or asset management (e.g. LANTRA).
·Experience working within local authority or public sector highways environment.
