Highway Design Engineer
My client is looking for a proactive and motivated Highway/Infrastructure Design Engineer to join their Engineering Design Team, based in either London or Manchester. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of high-profile and challenging projects, delivering innovative solutions across highways and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
·Produce concept, feasibility, and detailed construction designs for highway and drainage infrastructure schemes.
·Prepare planning stage layouts to support transport planning submissions.
·Develop 3D designs and outputs using Civil 3D, in line with DMRB, Manual for Streets, and project-specific standards.
·Create sketch concepts, drawings, and general arrangements to recognised design standards.
·Assist with the preparation of contract documents and technical specifications.
·Undertake inspections, surveys, and reporting, including site supervision of projects.
·Provide coaching and guidance to junior engineers and CAD technicians.
·Manage small projects or project elements, ensuring delivery within time and budget.
·Contribute to commercial and technical project management to support efficient delivery.
·Develop innovative design solutions that add value for clients.
·Stay up to date with industry developments, sharing knowledge and contributing to the technical growth of the team.
Required Skills & Competencies
·Strong technical background in detailed design for highway, drainage, and infrastructure projects.
·Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related software (e.g., AVT, KeySign/Post).
·Experience with Section 278/38 highway approvals and Section 104/106 water industry agreements.
·Good working knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, and other relevant standards.
·Awareness of DCG drainage guidance and Building Regulations.
·Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
·Ability to work effectively as part of a dynamic team.
·Commercial awareness and an understanding of project delivery requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
·Minimum 3 years' experience in highway/infrastructure design.
·HNC with extensive experience, or BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
·Membership of CIHT, ICE, or an equivalent professional body.
Desirable:
·MEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
·Ability to use micro-drainage software.
·Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional accreditation.
