Job description

Health and Safety Officer - Highways
 
To assist the Highways and Transportation Service in supporting the business in meeting compliance with all statutory and legislative Health and Safety requirements.
 
Accountabilities:
- Monitoring and managing risk assessments.
- Accident monitoring, which can include investigations.
- Site visits and audits.
- Delivery of Heath and Safety related training.
- Assuming the control of documents relating to Health and Safety.
- Attending relevant meetings and providing updates to managers.
- Identifying accident trends and mitigations.
- Provide advice regarding industry good practice.
- Present Health and Safety related data to managers and at relevant meetings.
 
Skills, knowledge & experience:
- Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety within a Highways setting.
- Considerable experience working within Health and Safety.
- Providing leadership that empowers colleagues and staff to achieve results
- Managing and monitoring performance effectively and setting clear objectives for the review of individual and service-level performance
- Making an effective contribution to internal and external meetings
- Working effectively with others.
- Developing productive working relationships that command respect, trust, and confidence
- Keen to look for continuous improvements and apply processes.
- Excellent communication skills at a variety of levels, both verbally and in writing.
- A good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation including CDM.
- Assist in the production of RAMS.
- Experience of RIDDOR regulations and reporting.
 
Qualifications & Training:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate, NCRQ or NVQ Level 3
- A full driving licenses.
