Job: Health & Safety Advisor
Location: Essex, UK
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000
My client is a well-established civil engineering contractor, seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their team. This role will focus on ensuring compliance and promoting a positive safety culture across a variety of projects, including highway maintenance, infrastructure, and other civil works. Candidates must have a proven track record within a civils environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert health and safety compliance advice across the business
- Undertake audits, inspections, and incident investigations, implementing effective corrective actions
- Mentor staff at all levels to improve management systems and safety culture
- Prepare and review risk assessments, method statements, and procedures to ensure compliance
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and service strikes, and maintain accurate incident statistics
- Conduct compliance evaluations and maintain the company's legal register
- Collaborate closely with contract managers and supervisors to ensure adherence to H&S policies
- Report on QHSE performance to the Health & Safety Manager
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) preferred
- Previous experience as a Health & Safety Advisor within a highways/civils background is essential
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations and Temporary Works
- Demonstrated experience in providing sound H&S advice and implementing safe systems of work on civil engineering sites
- Full UK driving licence
