Job description

As a Flood Risk Consultant, you will play a crucial role in assessing, analysing, and managing flood risks associated with new and existing development projects. Your expertise will contribute to the safe and sustainable development of these schemes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and minimizing potential impacts.
 
Responsibilities:
 
·Conduct  flood risk assessments for residential development schemes, considering all relevant factors such as site characteristics, local hydrology, climate change, and floodplain mapping.
·Analyse data and use advanced hydrological and hydraulic models to predict flood risks and assess their potential impacts on proposed developments.
·Provide advice and recommendations to clients and internal teams on flood risk mitigation strategies, including flood storage, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), flood barriers, and other appropriate measures.
·Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, engineers, and environmental consultants, to ensure effective integration of flood risk management strategies into residential development designs.
·Stay updated with current industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to flood risk assessment and management, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines.
·Prepare detailed reports and documentation, including flood risk assessments, environmental statements, and planning applications, highlighting key findings, recommendations, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
 
Qualifications and Skills:
 
·Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, civil engineering, geography, or a related field. A master's degree or professional qualification in flood risk management would be advantageous.
·Proven experience in flood risk assessment, particularly within the residential development sector. Experience in assessing flood risks associated with riverine, coastal, or surface water flooding is desirable.
·Knowledge of relevant flood risk management legislation, guidelines, and best practices, including the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), Flood Risk Regulations, and SuDS standards.
·Proficiency in using hydrological and hydraulic modeling software, such as Flood Modeller, HEC-RAS, or Tuflow, to analyse flood risks and develop flood risk management strategies.
·Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation abilities.
·Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
