Job description
Are you a commercially astute Estimator with client-side experience in major rail projects?
Do you enjoy working on complex, high-value programmes where your input genuinely shapes outcomes?
Salary:
Birmingham: £85,000 to £90,00
London: £90,000 to £100,000
Location: Hybrid: 3 days in Birmingham or 3 days in London (your choice), remainder remote
You’ll step into a visible, client-facing role with a global consultancy delivering a nationally significant, multi-billion-pound high-speed rail programme across stations, depots, heavy civils and rail systems (signalling, OLE, traction power). You’ll sit in a client-facing cost & commercial team, focusing on reviewing and validating existing estimates rather than building bottom-up, challenging assumptions, and closing scope gaps across complex, multi-disciplinary packages.
Essential Requirements:
- Strong rail infrastructure background in heavy civils, stations/depots, or rail systems (signalling, OLE, power).
- Estimating experience at project or programme level.
- Client-side or consultancy experience.
- Able to review and interrogate existing estimates, identify scope gaps, and challenge assumptions.
- Experience producing or reviewing Bills of Quantities (BoQs) – understanding of cost breakdowns, variations and change management.
- Proficient with Excel.
- Confident communicator – able to work independently and liaise with senior client stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Chartered status (RICS / CICES / similar) or equivalent senior-level experience.
- Exposure to major public-sector clients (DfT, Network Rail, Transport authorities, or large infrastructure bodies).
- CostX, Power BI or similar advantageous.
