Job description

Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in London in the search for an Economic Development Officer to join their team on an initial 3 month contract, then rolling.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will lead on and deliver a range of high street   programmes to empower businesses and boost footfall and trade. From driving business engagement initiatives and supporting local business associations; to commissioning and managing external suppliers, we are looking for a confident communicator with excellent project management skills.

Provide support to the Business Services Manager and the wider Economic Development Team in the development and successful delivery of new approaches to business engagement and enterprise programmes and projects that ensure the achievement of the boroughs Industrial Strategy and inclusive economy ambitions.

You will need to:

  • Provide support to the Head of Service and the wider Economic Development Team in the development and successful delivery of new approaches to business engagement and enterprise programmes and projects that ensure the achievement of the boroughs Industrial Strategy and inclusive economy ambitions.
  • Provide a bridge between key business organisations and support collaboration and business friendly practise across different council service  areas.
  • Build relationships with existing and new businesses to support a resilient, vibrant, and inclusive local economy.
  • Coordinate and deliver business support programmes including signposting and referrals.
  • To provide an effective and efficient customer focused service, including the preparation of succinct and structured communications, including  newsletters, web content, publicity materials and drafting appropriately informed responses to formal and informal enquiries from senior      officers, councillors, partners, and the public (including Freedom of Information (FOI) requests) and complaints), in a confidential and    sensitive  manner.
  • Develop working relationships with property management agents and landlords to ensure a good understanding of the supply and demand for  vacant commercial premises as well as driving forward potential meanwhile space opportunities.
  • Conduct outreach with businesses to engage with programmes business associations.
  • Support local business associations to grow including the organisation of meetings, minute taking and supporting co-ordination of activities.
  • Commission and contract manage supplier's high street and business support programmes
  • Maintain an active CRM/database of high street businesses firms to track outputs/outcomes and ensure effective communication with all  businesses.
  • Provide high quality written and oral briefings, policy advice and reports for senior officers, elected members, other departments, and key    external stakeholders.
  • Attend meetings and provide regular updates to colleagues in Environment and Transport who are funding this role.


This post is offered on hybrid basis, with weekly presence needed on-site.

It would be beneficial to hold a relevant degree or professional qualification, membership of relevant professional organisation or relevant experience.

The council are looking for candidates who will be able to hit the ground running as soon as possible and are offering flexible working arrangements.

Carrington West Pay Rate - £28 to £32per/hour (Depending on experience)
