Job Title: Ecologist (All Levels - Field to Principal)
Location: East of England
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Package: £35,000-£60,000
Overview:
We are currently recruiting for Ecologists at all levels on behalf of a leading national infrastructure organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing in-house environmental team, supporting some of the UK's most important highways and infrastructure projects.
Whether you're a Principal Ecologist with extensive consultancy experience or a Field Ecologist looking to take the next step, there is room for development, progression, and meaningful project work in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
·Conduct ecological field surveys and assessments, including UK Habitat Classification and protected species surveys
·Deliver Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and habitat condition monitoring
·Provide Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) support, where required
·Prepare reports, impact assessments, mitigation plans, and licensing documentation
·Collaborate closely with design, construction, and operational teams to integrate ecological considerations
·Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation, policy, and internal standards
Requirements:
·Relevant experience in ecology or environmental consultancy (experience level flexible)
·Strong knowledge of ecological principles, UK legislation, and industry guidance
·Demonstrated experience conducting habitat and/or species surveys
·Experience with BNG assessments and ecological mitigation planning is desirable
·Excellent communication and organisational skills
·Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and work away when required
