Job description

Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in the West Midlands in the search for a Planning Officer to join their Development Management team in the Town Planning department on an initial 3 month contract; although this is likely to roll on.

My client is looking for a case worker to process both a backlog as well as some new minor and householder planning applications. The ideal candidate would have a couple of years' experience and the ability to deal with their own case load of work with little to no supervision.  
 
Experience working with members and the public would be ideal but not necessary.  It would be beneficial to hold a Post-graduate degree in planning, regeneration or a related discipline, and have full MRTPI status.
 
This contract will last for an initial 3 period, however, it is likely that this will roll on.
 
Main Activities:
·To assist in the delivery of the Development Control Service, in particular:
Processing of all types of planning applications including registration, consultation, negotiations, exercising delegated authority, preparing written statements for appeals and when MRTPI, to present evidence at hearings.
Dealing with the discharge of conditions and monitor implementation of development.
Consultation and negotiations including Section 106 agreements.
Presentation, as and when required, of items at Planning Applications Committee.
Attendance at public meetings when required.
Dealing with the processing of Tree Preservation Orders and works to trees and anti social behaviour orders relating to High Hedges.
Obtain working knowledge of the activities of other related teams such as Building Control and Planning Policy.
·Provision of advice and information to the public and other customers on planning matters
·To provide advice and information to the public and other customers on planning matters.
·Assessment of complaints about unauthorised activities.
·To assist with the supervision and training of planning, work experience placements, students and technical staff.
·Contribute when required to other projects included in the Service Unit's work programme.
·Contribute when required to corporate projects and other working groups
·Such other duties of a similar nature and level of responsibility as may be   required from time to time.
 

Carrington West Pay Rate - £30 per/hour (DOE)
