Job description

Position: Clerk of Works - Highway Projects

Location: Southampton area

Hourly Rate: £35.00 (Outside IR35)

We are currently seeking a diligent and experienced Clerk of Works to join our team and oversee highway works in the Southampton area on behalf of the local authority. As a Clerk of Works, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that construction activities meet the required standards, specifications, and regulations.

Responsibilities:
·Conducting regular inspections of highway construction projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, standards, and health and safety regulations.
·Monitoring the quality of materials used and workmanship, identifying any defects or deviations from the approved plans.
·Maintaining detailed records of site activities, observations, and non-conformance issues.
·Collaborating with contractors, consultants, and local authority representatives to resolve technical issues and ensure project requirements are met.
·Providing expert advice and guidance to contractors and other stakeholders on construction methodologies and compliance matters.
·Participating in site meetings and reporting on project progress, issues, and recommendations.
·Assisting with the preparation of progress reports, snagging lists, and completion certificates.

Requirements:
·Proven experience as a Clerk of Works or a similar role, preferably in highway projects.
·Solid knowledge of highway construction techniques, specifications, and standards.
·Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and their application in construction.
·Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify and address quality-related issues.
·Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with contractors, consultants, and local authority representatives.
·Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and producing clear, concise reports.
·Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
·A relevant technical qualification or professional certification would be advantageous.
