Associate Director Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist / Geo-Environmental Consultant
 
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to sit directly under / alongside the leadership team to help manage the soils department on a technical, and commercial basis, as well as developing the business as a whole.
 
My client is looking for an Associate grade with extensive ground investigation experience looking to make that next step into helping manage and grow a Geo-Environmental / Geotechnical business in conjunction with the Structural Survey team. Ideally someone who is ambitious and self driven who can demonstrate excellent leadership skills.
 
The company is a multidisciplinary specialist Geotechnical and Geo-environmental consultancy based on the South Coast in West Sussex, delivering investigation services to the construction industry throughout the UK.
 
The Role
The role as an Associate Director will primarily focus on being the office lead giving technical, operational and commercial support to the Directors. Development and expansion of the business is also an important feature of the position.
Your main duties as an Associate will comprise, managing the day-to-day tasks with delivering projects and managing a growing team of, circa 5, engineers. Projects are within a range of sectors including rail, infrastructure, buildings, developments, leisure, education and heritage. It will be expected that you can quality check all technical reporting on a Phase 1 and Phase 2 basis (combined interpretive), risk assessments (RAMS, GQRA etc) as well as overseeing multiple GI projects on a technical, commercial and financial basis. You must be client facing, self-motivated, work well within a team environment and able to mentor and develop junior engineers.
Promotion and support of SHEQ systems and expectations within the company would also be a requirement.
 
Requirements
·Geology background, qualified to a minimum of BEng or BSc or equivalent in Geology / Environmental Science or similar
·A Post Graduate degree level qualification in a related discipline
·Chartered with the relevant body (ie CGeol, CEng)
·Minimum 15 years specific relevant experience
·Thorough understanding of geology, ground investigations works, contaminated land and engineering geology
·Ability to complete factual and interpretative assessments
·Extensive experience designing, organising and managing of geotechnical and geo-environmental ground investigations
·The ability to deliver a consistently high standard of managing all practical, technical and financial aspects of projects
·Track record in managing time and resources effectively and within budget
·Must possess a driving licence and be willing to relocate to the area
·IOSH or NEBOSH certification would be beneficial
 
Key Tasks
·Quality checking for technical reporting on both a geotechnical and geo-environmental basis
·Prepare and oversee fee bids and proposals
·Site audits
·Lead input to team and client meetings, being prepared to own decisions and put forward alternative ideas and concepts for the business as a whole
·Mentoring of junior staff and devising training programme
·Regular liaison between directors and the in-house teams
·Undertaking project management duties and resolving technical issues
·Overseeing operations, including the in-house technical operative team
·Review of technical and commercial documents including reports, letters, contracts and quotations
·Preparing and reviewing health and safety documentation
