Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Infrastructure
 
 

Are you a Graduate Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor within the Highways and Infrastructure sector, currently looking for progression?
 
Does the prospect of working for a Tier 1 civil engineering company interest you?
 
I am working in collaboration with a UK Main Contractor, who are now looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor with at least one years on the job experience to work from their Birmingham Office.  
 
Working in partnership with their customers to deliver major built environment and critical national infrastructure projects across the UK, their specialist engineering and construction teams bring multi-sector innovation and technical skill - from building and highways, to large-scale water networks and treatment plants.
 
As Assistant Quantity Surveyor within the Infrastructure sector, you will help deliver major transport and infrastructure projects nationally to drive sustainable development and economic growth. Many of the projects will involve complex logistical challenges interfacing with multiple stakeholders and coordination with third parties. Adopting a partnering approach from the outset working collaboratively with both clients and project stakeholders will develop optimal solutions that provide best value through reduced risk and efficient delivery.
 

  
Duties will include:

·Assisting with weekly cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams
·Assisting to ensure draft/outline CTC's are completed via communication with Project Managers
·Maintaining deadlines in line with the monthly commercial calendar
·Attend internal and external commercial review meetings
·Ensure commercial challenge at all times to contract delivery teams
·Upload documentation as and when necessary in line with business requirements
·Review weekly site records including allocation sheets and site diaries
·Attend project handover meetings
·Negotiating with suppliers and subcontractors
·Attend site progress meetings
·Assisting with the production of management information required and take responsibility for the accuracy of information (Provisions, Cash flows, Applications, etc)
·Assisting with the management of Risk Registers identifying project risks, opportunities and value engineering opportunities
·Work in conjunction with the contract delivery teams to ensure the budgets are not exceeded
·Assisting with the management of commercial aspects with the client including Compensation Events/Variations, Extension of Time and Completion request etc
·Ensure that the contract delivery team are briefed and have sufficient commercial support to monitor and react to budget variances
·Maximising value and minimising cost, ensuring that appropriate controls are in place to monitor and manage the operating cost base
·Ensuring that cash flow is maximised including ensuring that payments are received on time
·Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial performance reports
·Working with the contract delivery teams to manage project performance
·Assisting with the management of the commercial aspects of subcontract accounts from procurement to interim and final account agreement
·Preparation of and assistance with the evaluation and submission of claims from Subcontractors for Compensation Events/Variations
 


Candidate profile:
 
·At least one years experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveying role
·Knowledge of the Infrastructure sector, rail, highways, civils or utilities
·Commercial and contractual awareness
·A good level of competency of Microsoft packages
·The ability to anticipate problems and ensure early intervention
·Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management would be advantageous
·Desire to understand and promote the Company purpose, vision, values and culture
·Flexibility, resilience and the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels
·Commitment to the provision of excellent customer service
·Experience in a fast paced, national and multi-site business
·Self starter who has the ability to prioritise a varied workload and demonstrate good time management to comply with deadlines
