Job description
An opportunity for a forward thinking Architectural Technologist to join a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering practice with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality, innovative projects across the UK. Working across various sectors, including residential, commercial, and refurbishment, with an emphasis on sustainability and technical excellence.
Role Purpose
As an Architectural Technologist, you will be responsible for supporting the architectural team by delivering highquality technical design and detailing for residential and commercial projects. You will work closely with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure projects are delivered from planning stage through to construction, ensuring all drawings, specifications, and BIM/CAD models are coordinated and compliant with relevant regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop detailed design documentation including drawings (plans, sections, elevations), details, and schedules that reflect the architectural intent.
- Produce working drawings / BIM models (Revit, CAD, or other) in coordination with structural and civil engineers and the architectural lead.
- Develop technical solutions and detailing for architectural elements, ensuring compliance with building regulations, planning approvals, and health & safety requirements.
- Assist in specification writing and selection of appropriate materials, systems, and assemblies.
- Coordinate with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure interfaces are resolved, and documentation is consistent and buildable.
- Participate in site visits, surveys (existing buildings, refurbishments, conversions), and production of asbuilt records as required.
- Maintain uptodate knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, best practices, and emerging technologies/materials.
- Assist with procurement coordination, liaising with contractors and stakeholders to clarify technical intent, resolve queries, and support construction.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, drawing standards, and BIM/CAD protocols.
Skills & Experience
- Qualification in Architectural Technology (e.g., BSc/MSc or HND) or equivalent technical experience.
- Strong experience (typically 25 years or more) in producing detailed architectural drawings/specifications for residential or commercial projects.
- Proficient in BIM and CAD software (Revit preferred) and comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Good understanding of UK building regulations, planning permissions, construction detailing, and specification writing.
- Excellent technical drawing skills, attention to detail, ability to interpret architectural and engineering design intent.
- Effective communicator with ability to liaise across disciplines and support delivery of coordinated design.
- Selfmotivated, adaptable, organised, able to manage workload and meet deadlines.
