Role: SHEQ Manager - Utilities
Location: North Acton
Rate: £400 per day - Umbrella
Duration: 6 months +
Start Date: ASAP
 
My client are looking for an experience SHEQ Manager to join their busy team working on the HS2 project within the Utilities team of the HS2 Enabling Works Contract. The scope of the EWC South includes demolition, utilities diversions, highways, archaeology, and ecology works over 4-6 years, with an estimated final value in excess of £600m. You will be directly involved in the delivery of the programme of c150 individual projects and will help contribute to skills and employment in the local community, leaving a positive legacy.
 
Responsibilities include
·Provide operational and functional advice to the Work Package delivery team on the practical implementation of the company's SHE policies and processes including external stakeholders such as customers if necessary.
·Assist and provide advice to Management in the understanding of stakeholders (internal and external) aims, priorities and risks with regards to SHE
·Assist, where needed, with the development of Health, Safety and Environmental Management plans if applicable and coordination of review.
·Provide operational and functional management with advice on the prevention of accidents, incidents and ill health.
·Undertake and provide advice in key tasks to assist in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System.
·Provide a mentoring role to the CSJV delivery team within your area of responsibility.
·Undertake and/or assist Contract Management in establishing, managing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, HSE, EA, and others as required and directed.
·Assist with and undertake SHE Advisory Visit, Inspections and Audits where required of operational sites.
·Provide advice, guidance and independence with regards to the assessment of and appointment of sub-contractors.
·Research Safety, Health and Environmental Issues and best practices as directed by the Head of H&S or delegate.
·Provide support to the Work Package management team with regards to supplier assessment, tenders and pre-qualification information.
·Assist as necessary with the preparation of SHE risk assessments and Method Statements.
·Undertake and/or assist with the monitoring, analysis of and reporting of SHE performance. Utilize data to highlight areas of further consideration, evaluation and intervention.
·Assist the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses and other incidents as directed.
·Assist in the preparation and implementation of SHE training/briefings, as directed.
·Promote best practice, capture best practice and ensure it is feedback into the business.
·Set standards and lead by example in the management of SHE.
·Liaise with the other members of the SHE Team and the wider organisation (Costain and Skanska) and HS2 with regards to SHE.
·Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relations to SHE Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership
 
Skills and Experience:
·5 years of SHE related experience including that of working with complex utilities.
·Health and Safety and environmental diploma or NVQ/ level 6 qualification
·The ability to thrive in pressure situations
·The ability to empathise and communicate with all people, regardless of their background or circumstances
·Excellent organisations, communication and time management skills
·A passion of Safety, Health and Environment
·Be able to work on own initiative when required
·Be computer literate
