Job description

The Senior / Principal Engineer will possess the necessary experience, knowledge and technical expertise to take ownership of design packages and work independently to assist the senior members of the team in delivery of schemes. They must be conversant in post planning detail design skills on Infrastructure schemes, including but not exhaustive to the following, Highway and Drainage design. They will also need to be understand utilities, including the diversion and review process.
The key design skills will include delivery of the following:
·Highway Specifications
·Horizontal Design
·Vertical Design (including cross sections and long sections, 3D modelling)
·Pavement / Footway design
·Highway surface water drainage
·Foul drainage design
·Signing & Lining
·Site clearance
·Setting out
·Kerbing
·Standard Construction Details
 
The Senior / Principal Engineer will provide essential support to the senior members of the team for certain management, and administrative roles that are essential to ensuring the delivery of schemes. The role will require excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and an ability to present the findings of a project or to represent the interests of the company in public. They may be required to direct the activities of more junior personnel in relation to both general office and project-related management issues and will be expected to mentor those directly below them in order to broaden the company's skill base and expertise.
 
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities associated with the role are as follows:-
·To provide essential support for more senior personnel to ensure successful delivery of a commission
·To bring together the necessary internal and external resources and skills required to fulfil the obligations of each and every commission to the budget and timescale agreed with the client
·To liaise/meet with other consultants and external members of the project team where necessary to ensure co-ordination of information and resources
·To liaise with the PM to understand the project specification, the timescale, the fee and the terms of engagement
·To liaise with the PM to promptly report any issue arising during the undertaking of the project that has implications either to the brief or the timescale.  Such implications are to be reported as variations and budget alterations are to be agreed with the client
·To keep the PM informed of all design implications and risks associated with all commissions
·To fulfil the role of Design PM on appropriate scale / scope projects
·To ensure that the company's Quality Assurance procedures are adhered to on each and every commission
·To have a basic understanding of all the tools and techniques employed within the field of highway engineering
·To keep abreast of the latest developments with respect to all the tools and techniques employed within the field of highway engineering
·To have a full understanding of, ensure compliance with and assist in the upkeep and refinement of the company's Health & Safety Policy
·To be able to undertake their work to the company and industry wide CAD Standards. Also will ensure that others who undertake work for them comply with the relevant CAD Standards.
 
To ensure all work they produce adheres to the Quality Assurance process prior to delivery. They will manage their work to ensure ample time for the Design Leads / Project Managers to undertake the Quality Assurance process.
