Senior Quantity Surveyor - Freelance
 
Are you a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC contract knowledge and experience managing multiple live schemes at once? Looking for a long-term freelance opportunity with flexibility and autonomy?
A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking a Consultant Senior Quantity Surveyor to support its Northern Region, based in the East Midlands.
 
This role will be primarily focused around Nottingham / Derby, operating on a hybrid basis between live sites, the Chesterfield office, and home working.
 
You'll be joining a busy regional team delivering multiple concurrent schemes, requiring strong commercial control, proactive contract management, and confident stakeholder engagement.
 
Key Details:
·Contract Length: Minimum 12 months
·Location: East Midlands (Nottingham / Derby)
·Working Pattern: Hybrid - site, Chesterfield office & home
·Engagement: Ltd / Umbrella PAYE / CIS
 
This position offers the chance to play a senior commercial role across several live projects, with responsibility for NEC contract administration, compensation events, and robust commercial reporting.
You'll be trusted to manage multiple schemes simultaneously, working closely with operational teams to protect commercial outcomes and maintain best practice across the region.
 
Key Responsibilities:
·Commercial management of multiple concurrent schemes
·Working under NEC contract forms
·Pricing, submitting, and agreeing Compensation Events
·Producing accurate commercial and cost value reports
·Subcontractor account management and payments
·Supporting strong commercial governance across projects
·Working within framework contracts (where applicable)
 
What We're Looking For:
·Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering
·Demonstrable experience managing multiple live schemes concurrently
·Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
·Confidence in pricing, negotiation, and commercial reporting
·Framework contract experience desirable (but not essential)
·Ability to work autonomously in a consultant-style role
